SUNDAY ONLY

Just say it out loud - you'll get it.

It's been a while since the BBMF's catchily named Dakota, ZA947, has been to see us and we're very grateful she's coming back.

The C47 Dakota is a military transport derivation of the Douglas DC3. It's renowned as being one of the most successful and venerated military cargo aircraft of all time.

This is not altogether surprising as the DC3, quite simply, is the aircraft which created what we know today as the modern airline industry.

Capable of landing just about anywhere (not at the Airshow though - we have so many display aircraft we literally can't fit them) the Dakota and DC3 are legendary for making just about any length of gravel, mud or grass a runway.

Capable of being loaded up to weigh over 14 tonnes, two Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp engines allow the aircraft which can fly at such low speed it can land on a postage stamp to also fling itself along at over 200mph.

It's a icon in every sense of the word and we're very grateful to the RAF for letting Kwicherbichen come back for a very welcome return.
