Saturday 26th July ONLY
As we celebrate one significant anniversary for a four engined bomber, B-17 Sally B, there's another milestone this year, VE80. This weekend we're incredibly fortunate to have a multitude of warbird icons, all of which saw action in WWII, and played a vital role in ensuring that the 8th May 1945 will be forever known as VE Day.
WWII saw incredible airborne courage on a daily basis. Perhaps, though, one such example is just a little bit more famous than all the others. A combination of a genius called Barnes Wallace, the leadership of Guy Gibson, the skill and bravery of those he commanded and one remarkable aircraft ensured that the word Dambusters entered the English language. This is one example of the four engined masterpiece they used, the Avro Lancaster.
This Lancaster, one of two still flying, has been here before and, in fact, it's the second time both Sally B and the Lancaster have both displayed here in the same afternoon. There's no finer way, really, of marking the end of the War in Europe eighty years ago and we're incredibly grateful to the BBMF that PA474 is coming back once again during a very special year.
